Until we have a County Coordinator:
We need a member to volunteer to work with Harris County Precinct 2 so we can once again enjoy taking a bus downtown. Kathleen has done it before but she is now both our Education and Social Media Chair.
BAGS will car pool to Clayton Library on Saturday, September 7 @ 9 am to 3:30 pm. We hope you can meet us at Clayton Library to do genealogy research together! We will book the conference room at the front of the library for BAGS members. Please email, text, or contact Kathleen education@txbayareagen.org or 409-344-0567 if you need a ride. Several members have offered to drive and will meet you at a local library (Freeman or Friendswood) to carpool into Houston together!
Note to any new members of Bags: If you are not aware, this Clayton library is devoted to family searching with records from towns and cities all over the country. It is huge and may well be worth visiting this event to get orientated to what the library has. It may well save you a trip to your far away place looking for records! They do have free parking.
Please bring a lunch. There are tables outside to sit and eat. You may want to bring a flash drive to save records from the computer and scanned copies from books.
Note from Susan D Kaufman, Clayton’s Senior Manager
Currently (July 11, 2024) we now have printing capabilities at Clayton.
However, it is “cashless”, so please bring your debt or credit card.
We also offer these suggestions below:
BOOKS:
• Personal devices such as phones, tablets, etc. can be used to take photos of images from books
• Bring in a personal portable scanner
• We have a flatbed scanner. A personal flash drive can save images.
PUBLIC COMPUTERS:
• Email images from the public computers to yourself.
MICROFILM:
• A microfilm scanner is available, a personal flash drive can save images.
SLIDE SCANNER:
• A slide scanner is available. Again, a personal flash drive can save images.
